U.S. 4th Fleet Conducts Maritime Staff Talks with Brazil

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Southern Command/U.S. 4th Fleet, Rear Adm. Jim Aiken, hosted delegates from the Brazilian navy for the 27th annual Maritime Staff Talks (MST), at St. Francis Barracks, Florida National Guard Headquarters in St. Augustine, May 3-5, 2022.

4th Fleet Helps Promote Enlisted Leader Development to Partner Nations

MAYPORT, Fla — U.S. Naval Forces Southern Command/U.S. 4th Fleet is making strides with their ongoing initiative of enlisted leader development (ELD) to partner nations in the 4th Fleet area of responsibility.

Marine Corps Maj. Brooks Grado, an intelligence officer with U.S. Marine Corps Forces, Southern Command and Navy Cmdr. Jonathan Saburn, a future operations officer assigned to U.S. 4th Fleet, discuss future operating concepts aboard the expeditionary fast transport vessel USNS Burlington (T-EPF-10) during a fleet experimentation period. The fleet experimentation serves to demonstrate Navy/Marine Corps integration by testing concepts that would be employed during expeditionary advance base operations, evaluating expeditionary systems for force protection and coordinated electronic warfare.

The Freedom-variant littoral combat ship USS Billings (LCS 15) operates in the Caribbean Sea, April 9, 2022. Billings is deployed to the U.S. 4th Fleet area of operations to support Joint Interagency Task Force South’s mission, which includes counter-illicit drug trafficking missions in the Caribbean and Eastern Pacific.

4th Fleet Conducts Maritime Staff Talks with Chile

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Southern Command/U.S. 4th Fleet, Rear Adm. Jim Aiken, hosted delegates from the Chilean Navy (Armada de Chile) for the 26th annual Maritime Staff Talks (MST), at St. Francis Barracks, Flor-ida National Guard Headquarters, St. Augustine, Florida, March 29-31, 2022.

U.S. and partner nation flag and general officers participate in the Combined Force Maritime Component Commander (CFMCC) Flag Course at the U.S. Southern Command Conference Center of the Americas, March 21-25. Rear Adm. Jim Aiken, Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Southern Command/U.S. 4th Fleet, and the U.S. Naval War College co-hosted the course, which seeks to improve the effectiveness of senior leaders who routinely function together at the operational level of command and control. This year, 28 leaders from Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Panama, Peru, and Uruguay along with leader from the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, and National Guard participated in the course.
